The idea for PANDAFO didn’t come from a boardroom—it came from a recovery room.

After undergoing a major ankle reconstruction surgery, I was ready to take the next steps toward healing. My surgery was a success and my AFO braces were exactly what I needed to get back on my feet. However, I quickly hit an unexpected and painful roadblock: the socks.

The Struggle for a Simple Necessity

Three weeks before my procedure, I ordered specialized AFO socks from one of the only providers on the market. They didn't arrive until five weeks later. When I went to pick up my braces, I was left empty-handed and searching for a substitute.

During a week of physical therapy in Florida, I scoured stores for anything that would work—something long enough to cover the calf pad and wide enough to accommodate a swollen, post-surgical foot. I found nothing. That week of making do resulted in a severe heat rash and painful blisters where my brace rubbed against my shin. Eight weeks after my cast came off, I was still dealing with the physical aftermath of simply not having the right gear.

A Better Way Forward

For six weeks, I wore the "standard" AFO socks available to adults. I found the options limited, the quality low, and the experience more frustrating than the surgery itself. I knew there had to be a better way to support the community of brace-wearers.

I spent months researching materials and interviewing manufacturers, determined to create a product built on first-hand experience rather than just clinical theory. While many fitters suggested thin socks, my own blisters told a different story—thin fabric offered zero protection.

I didn't just want a "softer" sock; I wanted a smarter one. After testing various prototypes and materials with a dedicated manufacturer in California, I landed on a design that addresses the actual anatomy of a brace.
